The gap is largest in Galicia and Asturias, where many U.S.-born residents are the children of Spanish emigrants who returned home — not American settlers. 2. **Second-generation blindness.** U.S. citizens who settle and raise children born in Spain appear once, not as a household — so this is a floor, not a ceiling, on American-origin communities. 3. **Residual buckets.** A few birth countries sit in "other" groupings that cannot be split, so some small nationalities are not individually counted. 4. **No dominance score.** We publish neutral composition only; we do not rank towns by any "welcome", "friendliness", or dominance score — no such dataset exists. 5. **Small-municipality noise.** Per-capita rankings apply a minimum of 50 U.S.-born residents to avoid tiny towns producing meaningless rates. ## Citation string Source: the SpainScore Origins Map, derived from Spain's National Statistics Institute (INE) Censo Anual de Población, table 66322 (2021–2025).
